Kids are asked to design patterns under a subject of “Cactus”.
First, they are designing patterns, starting with pencil sketch, define the shape and lines. Then design the colour fillings.

I like to use light clay with kids because they are easy to shape, easy to dry without leaving any cracks. The work can be preserved for quite a long time.
Making something out of light clay means you have to understand the body of the object, square? round? cylinder? And you will use your little fingers to form them. This is an interesting challenge not only for kids, sometimes adults cannot make it as well.

As you may know, Mattisse made paper collage a new world of art.
Playing with paper has so much fun, they can be 2D and also 3D; it can be one layer, but also many layers. I encourage kids to use different papers with paints and brushes to organise their picture.
It sounds easy but actually, it is not so easy. Kids have to think and make a plan, they need to draw and create the object they need with paper.
The key point of this practise is not simply create something during my class, it is important to let them know, even the most common thing such as paper can be used as media of art.

There are Four Units in the last term of the year.
Instead of making a lot of paintings, I would like to introduce more materials to inspire our children to be even more creative.
Unit 1: Explore the Texture
This unit will last two classes. We will learn about texture by using conventional art media, e.g. paints, charcoals, pastels, and unconventional medias, e.g. cupboard, lids, plastic. Kids will explore the character of materials and create their own texture combinations.

In Term3, we will be exploring colours, studying colour theory with a lot of funs, and learn about the colour families which will help them observe and feel the nuances of colours in one tone. Also, we will work on lines, shapes, and volumes.

Meeting Jackson Pollock
As our end of year project, I decide to have our girls go wild and feel how master making their masterpieces.
Jackson Pollock is one of the best and most well known abstract artists in the world. The painting style invented by him is “dripping”. With this painting style, our children can feel how body movement becoming part of the creation, and how abstract painting expressing emotions.
