I am sure you will be surprised how children can react to colours with this subject.
Monet is one of the best know impressionism artists. Now, we discard shapes and concentrate on colours. Using colour dots only to create a lovely painting.
First, we need to use paper tape to create a simple shape of the bridge, and then we will just let the colour do the magic. Continue reading “Monet’s Waterlilies”

Is the widow nearer looks bigger than the one further?
Question like this leads us to perspective.
Instead of draw lines on a piece of paper, I would say create a space will be better! We looked at one point perspective and look for reason why we look bigger or smaller when standing at different position. Then, they have to create their own city streetscape in 3D

I like to use light clay with kids because they are easy to shape, easy to dry without leaving any cracks. The work can be preserved for quite a long time.
Making something out of light clay means you have to understand the body of the object, square? round? cylinder? And you will use your little fingers to form them. This is an interesting challenge not only for kids, sometimes adults cannot make it as well.

As you may know, Mattisse made paper collage a new world of art.
Playing with paper has so much fun, they can be 2D and also 3D; it can be one layer, but also many layers. I encourage kids to use different papers with paints and brushes to organise their picture.
It sounds easy but actually, it is not so easy. Kids have to think and make a plan, they need to draw and create the object they need with paper.
The key point of this practise is not simply create something during my class, it is important to let them know, even the most common thing such as paper can be used as media of art.

I love to get children experiencing how different colours can be produced just by mixing three primary colours.
It is easy for them to make orange, green, or purple. But there are many other colours. For example, there can be ten different levels of orange, some are lighter, some are stronger. Therefore, I asked everyone of them to observe, letting them think about questions like, “what is the colour of grass under the sun? What is the colour of grass in the shade? ” and ask them try to mix these different greens by mixing different amount of yellow and blue, even try to put a bit more red inside.
